“True Joy From Knowing God”

Today’s Text: Psalm 16:1-11

Key Verses: Psalm 16:11 (NLT) — “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.”

Sometimes, (or more often than not), life is like going through pain; and most people truly want to know just where to find true joy! They try all sorts of things to find it Things like cruising, relaxation, music, exploring world's fantasies; including some most incredible things; unfortunately, joy is not material, and nothing from without can ever bring the kind of joy we are talking about! But we all have a great news today. The quest for joy finds its answer in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Knowing Him and understanding His word brings a person to the most tremendous experience of joy.

From today's text, we find the description of a life that can walk in true joy: a picture of a man's assured hope and confidence in the God of heaven. This Psalm was written during the early days of David's career as a shepherd. He had encountered God from his early shepherd life. Walking with God from youth and growing up in His love is the deepest secret to the melodious and joyful life of David. Take a portrait of David, check out his testimonies in and out; and you will find nothing except the fact that he puts full trust in God to be his only secret of pure, sound and genuine joy. He was a man like many of us, he, too, tried out some uncertain things of life. He tried out the armor of Saul and found it to fail or not to avail. He has come to the understanding that men change and fail. He learned that riches take wings and possessions liquidate; but unlike him, many of us are still struggling with trusting God to bring us such needed peace in the place of effort; joy that flows from trust; and love that has nothing to do with mater. Knowing God not only draws us away from self-seeking or self-destroying pleasures; it fills us with the pleasure of God's presence. Learning from David not only brings same joy to us; it keeps us closer to God, and assures us such security that this world can never aford. God wants you to have authentic joy in your life. And knowing and following Him is the sure way to the discovery of that joy and truth. The Greek rendition of today's text reads: “You have shown me the way of life, and you will fill me with the joy of your presence.”

Prayer: Dear Lord, the world holds so much enticing beckons, but true grace, perfect joy, and eternal life come from you alone. Please let this truth settle my heart each day, in Jesus name. Amen.
