Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, March 28, 2023
Today’s Text: Luke 12:22-34
Key Verses: Luke 12:34 (ESV): “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

St. Lawrence was a deacon in the Church of Rome during the Third Century. He suffered martyrdom under Emperor Valerian but his story goes into eternal annals of history to teach all-time truth that what the world always runs after are really not the right or true treasures. The Emperor, Valerian, commanded Lawrence to submit all the wealth of the church to him — vessels of gold, silver cups, golden candlesticks. “ I can’t deny that the church is rich with precious possessions of Christ. It is blessed with much wealth and no one in the world has more.” Lawrence replied. Therefore he took three days gathering the sick and the poor: including a man with two eyeless sockets, a cripple with a broken knee, a one-legged man, a person with one leg shorter than the other, and others with grave infirmities. He lined these up at the church entrance, pointed to them and said: “There are the true treasures of the church, and you may have them.” Although the deacon was killed but the truth he spoke is still alive.
I know that, even till this very day, human hearts always seek after golden articles and costly things, but God’s true treasures consist in serving people: loving the unlovable, serving broken people, and blessing strangers. Unfortunately, our hearts are not in these treasures. Today’s text reveals the position of Jesus over possession and treasures. He warns us of the danger of seeking or hoarding possessions. He (Jesus) wants our heart to be where our heavenly treasures are (Luke 12:34). True riches are not in banks. They are everywhere around us: our homes, on busy streets, on lonely mountains, in homeless camps, in prisons, etc. Unfortunately, our hearts are not in these. We must be reminded that Jesus left the riches of heaven to seek and to save that which was lost. Therein is true riches. But ask yourself this question: “where is my heart?!”
Quote for the Day: “Whereas, everything and every word from the Lord is a treasure; we don’t always feel this is true. But whether we do or not, we cannot enjoy God’s treasure if we fail to embrace His trash." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, my desire is to be truly rich in Your grace and mercy rather than in material things. Please help me to always keep proper priorities in my life and to be purified in all of my desires — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
