Unified and Faultless Truth

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Friday, July 12, 2019

Our Text: John 10:24-39

Key Verse: John 10:35 (KJV): “If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken.”

Jesus reminds His audience that God’s Word is a unified and faultless body of truth that cannot be broken. By this, He means no one can properly teach or accept it in parts; or break it up in order to pit one verse or truth against another. Our Lord, here, declares the integrity and unity of the Word of God—how, from generation to generation, not a single verse goes astray from the rest, or expresses truth apart from the rest; but is a perfect whole, or is only perfect when it is whole.

If there’s any aberration in Christian teaching and preaching today, it does not come from the Word of God, but out of affirming one part of it, while denying or ignoring the rest. The error of the Jews that answered Jesus in today’s text is half baked and lop-sided theology. However, that we may not fall into same error or be cured of it, Jesus made this affirmation so that we may come to a well-rounded, accurate understanding of God’s unified and faultless truth. Whoever picks favorite verses in position, ideology or opinion against another scripture(/s) makes God a liar, and according to 2 Peter 3:16 do so to their own destruction.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for giving me Your unbroken and unbreakable Word as my guide, light, and revealer of truth about Yourself and about who I should be. Help me hold fast the integrity of Your Word, whatever the case, cost, or circumstance, in Jesus name. Amen.
