Untold Secret of Rest on Every Side (Part Four)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, May 27, 2021

Today’s Text: 1 Kings 5:1-18

Key Verse: 1 Kings 5:4 (NKJV) — “But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor evil occurrence."

Looking at the story of David is like looking at our family albums. Sometimes we see our grand father and it reminds us of those we resemble in the family tree. We are naturally of like passion as David. We are so restless and restive. Whereas Philippians 4:6 admonishes us to “not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation with prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. And the peace that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Unfortunately, we, instead nurture anxiety that surpasses all understanding. That is why we fight battles that are not chosen by God: emotional, financial, fraternal, family and spiritual battles. We entangle ourselves in surpassing anxieties rather than enjoy divinely surpassing peace.

Naturally the slightest peace in life is hard to come by already. So just how do we come by, feel or even understand God’s surpassing peace? We allow our world’s psychosocial stressors to get at us and cripple us. Solomon’s father fought physical gun and sword battles. He saw blood, and was soiled them. They so distracted him that he could not achieve his greatest life goal. In the same way, the enemy entangles us with battles that distress and distract our vision. Ours, however, are mostly battles of anxiety. But if, like Solomon, we release ourselves to encounter God, we shall experience rest in every side. Be it the panic caused by pandemic or rumors of wars and civil unrest, we can experience peace that surpasses all human comprehension.

Quote for the Day: “The life of inner peace that God promises is not one without stress; it is harmony in the midst of unrest." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I am weary of spending each day in much stress with so little success and much worries. Please bless my heart with your peace, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Please follow this series and have a blessed week... with all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
