Untold Secret of Rest on Every Side (Part Three)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, May 26, 2021

Today’s Text: 1 Kings 5:1-18

Key Verse: 1 Kings 5:4 (NKJV) — “But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor evil occurrence.”

We may all have felt the pain and struggles of what it means to grow up in a troubled generation. Solomon grew up in an embattled family, and became king through some really stern unrest. Even the kingdom he inherited was at the height of numerous power struggle and territorial rivalries. He did not start out as a restful or peaceful king. His battle started in his own very family, and it was not a funny one. He had to fight, root out and destroy anyone rivaling or threatening his kingship. But something changed from the point when Solomon had and encounter and a conversation with God.

No matter how restive and bloody a life is, or has been; a genuine encounter with God always changes the course. While not every biblical account of Divine encounter is loud and momentous; no single one is without an evidence. Abraham and Hannah’s experiences ended years of barrenness. Gideon’s encounter turned a coward weakling into a brave man of valor. Mary’s experience demonstrated what encountering God can do in any life. Jesus is the prince of peace; and anyone who encounters Him will find rest on every side. When Jesus’ earthly work of redemption was done; He left us a legacy or gift of “peace.” He said: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”(John 14:27)

Quote for the Day: “Solomon’s pathway to divine encounter was his freewill sacrifice of a thousand offering. What about us? How much do we see God as worthy of all? Our volition is what He requires rather than motivation?" (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Father, please give me a hunger to encounter you. Help me to focus on You alone. Come into the center of my every activity, and remove those things that keep me from encountering You. Capture my heart, and reveal Yourself to me, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Please follow this series and have a blessed week... with all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
