Waiting Call of Praise

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, February 27, 2023

Today’s Text: Psalm 65:1-8

Key Verse: Psalm 65:1 (ESV): “Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion, and to you shall vows be performed.”

Can we ever have a better description of the church’s atmosphere for worship than we do in this Psalm. At the background to this text is the fact that it is only at Zion that the altar is erected to God and except otherwise commanded by God, all praise, burnt offerings and sacrifices were only to be offered there. But, in/through Christ, every Christian gathering is now a waiting call of praise for the Lord. Whenever we gather in God’s presence, our praise waits for Him—from readiness to anticipation, God’s people gather to offer Him quality praise with their lives and lips. There are great manifold reasons to give God praise. The reasons to gather to praise him abounds and awaits the gathering. First, He is our maker, and we are the sheep of His pasture — i.e., He feeds our mouth with good things. He keeps us alive, He defends us. He atones for our sins. He supplies all our needs and fills our hearts with love and joy. And so, our praise is due to Him.

Our text today is an exhortation from for us to give praise to God for it is due into Him. Praise is our dues that we pay to God His love, glory, power and goodness. It is something we must do with a waiting anticipation or eagerness to praise Him. David gave several reasons our praise must await God. It is the same God our souls await when we are in trouble and He comes to our salvation (Psalm 62:1). Whether spoken or not, our vow is to offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving for who He is and what He does. Friends, let us join this happy chorus of faithful men who learns the power of standing by night and day with readiness to sing praise to our God. Let is be motivated by this scripture into the joyful place of quiet waiting or anticipating praising the Lord.

Quote for the Day: “The church is a perfect spiritual image of Zion. Every appearance at the church is perfect opportunity for our song to go up to God." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I choose to praise and worship You today and always. I choose not to be overwhelmed by any circumstance of my life: instead I seek to give you praise that you alone is worthy to receive — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
