Today’s Text: Ephesians 5:15-17

Key Verse: Ephesians 5:15 (ESV): “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise.”

As part of our new year “new resolution,”it will be an amazing start if we renew our commitment to holy and righteous living before God and the watching world. The apostle Paul admonishes that we “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” By this scripture, we are cautioned to live in pursuance of God’s will and ways. From the Latin root to “walk circumspectly” literally means to “look around.” is Paul’s way of urging Christians to look very carefully at how they live and behave.

Seeing that we have been given another chance to live yet another year; today’s devotion is our admonition to watch or look carefully at how we live. It is a call to live vigilant and be mindful of our behavior. We have a challenge to live worthy life as we face the new year. So that we are not caught off guard. The apostle Peter also gave a similar word of warning: “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour” (1Pet 5:8). Generally walking is a common metaphor for behavior and lifestyles. Living circumspectly is making sure we do not the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform us into a new person by changing the way we think.

Quote for the Day: “Living rooted in God’s wisdom and an understanding is the only acceptable way to walk as expected of us.” — Simon Olatunji

Prayer: Dear Lord and Father, thank You for the calling You have placed on my life. Please help me Lord to walk worthy of that calling with humility and love to bless others and shine the light of Jesus in all that I do — in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
