Today’s Text: 2 Corinthians 5:6-9
Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:7) (AMP) — “For we walk by faith, not by sight [living our lives in a manner consistent with our confident belief in God’s promises].”

In human terms, faith has been defined as complete trust or confidence in someone or something while sight is said to be the faculty or power of seeing. Some say faith is strong belief in God based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof. But the Bible gives a clearer and truer expression of faith as the assurance that the things revealed and promised in God’s Word are true, and that though unseen, believers in Christ have a conviction that all will come to pass; and, in fact, they are as tangible as though we now possess them. This expression is a call to different walk than the realities of the human sight or definitions avail.
When the foremost Scotch martyrs, Hamilton and Wishart were led to the castle of St. Andrews upon which they died at the stake for preaching God's truth, their final words contained how overjoyed they were to walk that way though it was a tortuous passage. As they descended the steps into an inner prison, a beam of light that streamed through a loophole of the massive rocky wall revealed the dreadfulness and hopelessness of the dungeon. They thought it was rightly called — an oubliette — a place of forgetfulness. It made them shudder as they were led staggering down that horrible pit; where nothing was seen but the blackness of darkness, and nothing was heard but the muffled sound of their stepping waves. But they walked by faith, not by sight.
In today’s text, St. Paul enjoins us to such perfect enigma of total resignation to God’s will, and to the cheerfulness of faithful followership and submission. Though we go through challenges different from those Scottish martyrs and from Paul; but we share common realities of the human nature or natural senses. And we share a common call to look only unto Jesus, the Author and the Finisher of our faith. As we traverse a world best likable to yon volcanic mountain, where though vineyards and fig-trees cover its sides with verdure; we live with occasional growl, tremors, puffs of smoke, and dreary eruptions of volcanoes. Therefore, we are all called to walk the dreary pathway of life by faith and not by sight. Let us be strengthened by the Apostles’ testimonies. Let us remember Psalm 46.
Quote for the Day: “The walk of faith is not popular, it is exemplary; it is not enviable, it is plausible. For whereas our eyes have not seen the crown of glory, we obediently preserve our heads to wear them.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: O Righteous Father, please help me to commit to walking by faith, and not by sight. Help me to focus on you and your kingdom. Don't let me be distracted by temporary wants, concerns, affliction or temptations, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
