Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, June 4, 2020
Today’s Text: John 7:37-52
Key Verse: John 7:38 (ESV): “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ ”
When I was heading a national ministry of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, I led a group of boys to Ikogosi Warm Springs, a tourist attraction in Ekiti State, southwestern Nigeria, known for issuing abreast the warm, another cold spring from the same source and meeting at a confluence with each maintaining its thermal properties. Believers in Christ may feel so forlorn in the heat of things, yes, but we are never dry and empty.
Our Lord’s estimation of us is quite unique. He looked through His spiritual eyes, on that great day of the feast, and sees the Sea of Sons and daughters coming into glory, out of whom He shall do that which the world has not and cannot do. Those cold can get the warm and those hurting the cool refreshing water from the self same River of Living Water in us.
Through those who believe in Him, which is you and I, Jesus shall spring pleasant surprises: filling the chaotic world with Christlike peace; perfuming the places with purity, truth, and positive power. Flooding the world of hate with the inexhaustible river of God is love. Isaiah (12:3) saw this ahead and gladsomely calls us to “with joy draw water from the springs of salvation." You become a walking walking spring the moment you yield Christ’s call of salvation.
