Wanted: A True Friend

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, February 9, 2020

Our Text: Proverbs 18:22-24

Key Verses: Proverbs 18:24 (NKJV): “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

The words in today’s text are beautifully, perfectly and metaphorically applicable to our Lord. Otherwise, you look around you, and you may be in agreement that true friends are no more around. We no longer have the likes of British statesman and financier Cecil Rhodes, whose fortune was used to endow the world-famous Rhodes Scholarships, who was known for his correct and classy dress sense—but who took off his full evening party dress to appear in a shabby old blue suit because of a young guest who dressed shabby in the party.

Does this age have any more Cecil Rhodes? Where have our Jonathans and Davids gone?! Where are the seeds of first Christians who lived through and true of Christ’s expressive love for people? Christ took off His heaven’s glory to wear the form of fractured men. He laid down His life for His friends. And O to think of those He called friends—those who hated him, hurt Him, and killed Him. Where are the men of God, and his people, who will, in the spirit of Christ, lay down their lives for their friends? We are in want of just a friend, a true friend!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, it’s hard but please give me Christ’s kind of heart: that sees foes as friends, in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
