Today’s Text: 2 Kings 5:1-19

Key Verse: 2 Kings 5:10 (ESV): “Then Elisha sent him a messenger, who said, "Go and wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored, and you will be clean."

We always have needs in our lives. Often, we are willing to be helped. And unfortunately, often, we don’t know where to get those help. However, we are blessed to always have an invitation to seek help in God. The story of Naaman is a testimony to this fact. Also, God reveals through it that He is always seeking a way to help us. He is more willing to help us than we are ever needing help of willing to be helped. Getting to the right quarter to find Him is what most people seems not be figure out. That is the concept of the prophetic invitation "Let him come now to me" in the story. The proof that there was a prophet in Israel is a proof that there is God who is able to help. Remember that behind the prophet is the living, wonder-working God.

You can approach God with whatever symbolizes uncleanness in your life: Your sins, your despair of help, your debts, your broken spirit, or even possibly a complex situation that is able to cause serious reproach and shame. God wants you to come to His river. He wants you to plunge yourself by faith and wash. One of the greatest challenges of the human spirit is arrogance and ego. We ride on high horses and often fail to humble ourselves and come to God. Naaman had to climb down his horses and chariots and stand before Elisha's door. No proud man receives God's blessing. No arrogant spirit waits at the door till God sends a word. Only a man of faith still keep trusting when you face something different than your expectations: First, Elisha fails to come out. Second, the chosen river was not popular. O dear! When everything you expect seems not forthcoming, learn to listen to God’s uncommon word such as came for Naaman: “wash and you will be clean.

Quote for the Day: “Simple obedience tests our trustful reliance in God. For if He is able to help us, we should be will to honor Him.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, stir the spirit of faithful obedience that receives from you in my heart, in Jesus' name. Amen

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
