We Got Hope!

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, April 6, 2023

Today’s Text: 2 Corinthians 4:7-18

Key Verses: 2 Corinthians 4:14 (ESV): “Knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.”

Nothing brings us hope better than the resurrection of Christ. It brings us hope in this world and in the age to come. It gives us hope from our daily dying unto the manifest glory of His rich grace and spirit. Hope is all we need to face another day and moment. It may be likened to what oxygen is for the lungs to our lives. Just like our hearts depend on a supply of oxygen, so does our whole being depends on its supply of hope.

Unfortunately, looking around, we find nothing around the age but despair and hopelessness and are everywhere. But we are encouraged by this scripture that the situation can change. The Apostle Peter was a man of like passion as we are. Like us, he despaired at the episode of Calvary when all hopes were lost. But I’m this text, he drops a note of triumph in our Lord Jesus Christ, by whose abundant mercies we are begotten to a lively hope.

The hope that Christ gives is abundant and unlimited: in Him, there’s hope that our sins can be forgiven. There is the hope for righteousness, peace, and joy in the midst of the despair. There is hope that the One who said He will come will come.  And, there is the blessed hope that our labor shall on earth shall be rewarded in heaven. This hope is not in or by our own power, might, righteousness, or goodness; but by the power of He who raised the Lord Jesus [who] will [also] raise us also with Jesus and bring us into his presence.

Quote for the Day: “Springs reminds us of hope. All our trees, flowers and crops were humbled by the severity of winter leap forth with joy for their new leaves and beautiful flowers again.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, my hope is in You, O thou my resurrected and living Lord and Savior. Through Your resurrection, I am freed from glom and despair.  Strengthen me today, O Lord, and always, in Your triumph and love — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
