I welcome you to this beautiful Saturday morning, and to the third and final part of our “We Would Like to See Jesus” devotional series. So far, we have seen how the Greek brothers came to Philip, one of Jesus’s disciples from Bethsaida. They came with eagerness, sincerity, humility and a firebrand wish to see Jesus. Blinded by their sins, and somewhat by religiosity, they have no clue as to who Jesus is, and how men may seek and see Him. But they were resolved not to die is their ignorance. So, they came to Philip because they thought he could or would help them to find Jesus. Finding Jesus is finding the messiah, the savior; and he that sees Him sees the Father. (John 14:9c)
We cannot be too certain why they chose to approach Phillip; but we know one thing of the character of Phillip. He is a revealer of the Messiah. It was Philip who led Nathanael to “come and see” Jesus. Each day, we, believers in Christ, are surrounded by proselytes and seekers in our neighborhood, churches, family, and every place of humanity, who are lost and empty. The burdens of their lostness and emptiness drive them to us. They come confused, hoping we are disciples, like Philip, and we shall be able to lead them to Jesus. Of course, we have heard situations in which the Lord himself choses an hour in which He reveals His mighty presence and power to certain people; but He places us here to be His Philips. He wants us to lead men to His light; but most of the time, we have failed them.
When Jesus said we are the light of the world; he meant that through us, people who sit in darkness will come to His marvelous, glorious and life-changing light! What have you done, or are you doing to help those around you, panting like a deer for the living waters, who would see Jesus? Have you shown them the way? Has your active love revealed who Jesus is to them? Or have you driven them a thousand mile further away from the savior? God is calling us to think about our roles as bearers of God's good news and light. What shall we do to lost fellows around us who would see Jesus?
Quote for the Day: “When a man sees Jesus, he sees true life. When he has Him, he has eternal life.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord please draw us to the place of deep encounter; where we shall cling ever more tightly to Jesus, having no doubt about Your presence, grace and blessings, in Jesus name. Amen.
Please have a fabulous Saturday, with all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
