Why You Don’t Need to Fear

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, June 20, 2022

Today’s Text: Deuteronomy 31:1-8

Key Verse: Deuteronomy 31:8 (ESV): “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

Joshua, being a type of Jesus, who led his people into the rest that God promised them was standing here in our position. He was also our type. As the commander of the people, he represented them and needed all the courage that his people needs. And invariably, God sent this word to Israel to let them know that their respected captain also has a Captain, who is the Lord, who goes before him — and of course, before the entire army of Israel.

Understanding that God goes ahead of us in and through all the dangerous paths of life helps us to be strong and courageous. Friends, we all have a ground of true courage. Yes, we have every factor of fear; but no single reason to fear at all. The reason is simple: God is with us. Yes, the same God that brought Israel out of Egypt, and went before them in the wilderness. The same shall go before us into all the lands wherever He leads us — to guide and direct, assist and strengthen, protect and defend, give success to our arms, and victory over our enemies. It is not in the character of God to fail His people or forsake them.

Just like Joshua and all of Israel, today’s Christians are faced with stern opposition and resistance. Terrorists and Jihadists tendencies trying hard to unsettle us and subjugate our schools, churches, homes, and lands. They flaunt their number, strength, weaponry, military might, and political strategies to make us fear. But, since it is the Lord that goes with, or before us, it does not matter what on earth the devil and all his cohorts are doing, we do not need to entertain fear. God is with us, and their gathering together is not by Him.

Quote for the Day: “It is not in the character of God to fail. Not only does He keep His own; He also goes with them to give them counseled direction for the journey. He also strengthens and encourages them on their journey." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, give us the courage that will help us walk with you without fear. Strengthen our hearts, and show Yourself strong for us. We stand in the gap for the church in Nigeria and all persecuted regions, ethnicities, schools, pastors, and homes, in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
