Today’s Text: Numbers 24:1-9
Key Verse: Numbers 24:9 (ESV): "He crouched, he lay down like a lion and like a lioness; who will rouse him up? Blessed are those who bless you, and cursed are those who curse you.”
Today’s text is an intriguing part of a series of oracles of a popular non Israelite prophet known as Balaam. This prophet, at the request of Balak, the king of Moab wanted to cursed the people of God. Balak had sought his help to curse the Israelites because he was scared ro death to see them camp near his (Moab's) border. But, God wants us to know that no one curses us when God blesses us. Balaam went with curse in hus heart, but instead, blessings came forth to Israel feom his mouth.
He found himself declaring Israel's blessings and prosperity. He describes Israel's strength and security by comparing them to a lion and a lioness. They are undarable. And, like Israel, those who bless you will be blessed, and those who curse you will be blessed. This passage is a messianic prophecy, foretelling the coming of Jesus Christ, who would bring salvation and redemption to the world though the devil tries to eliminate him. That's one solid principle of God's protection and defense for you as a child of God.
You are blessed with God's protection and defense, just like Israel. You have the promise of God's presence and guidance in your life. You are blessed with the comfort of the Holy Spirit, who guides and empowers you. You are so blessed, I dount you know it. You have the privilege of prayer, which allows us to speak directly with our Heavenly Father. No one curses you. You are blessed with the gift of life, and the opportunity to serve and glorify God. Above all, you have the promise of eternal life, and the hope of a glorious future with God. You are indeed blessed! O that you can count your blessings, and praise God for His goodness and love.
Quote for the Day: "We are too blessed than we ever know. Our lives overflow with blessings that we are too blind to see. And not that we are blind but we cannot recognize those blessings because they aren't dressed up the way we expected them to be." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before you with a grateful heart, thankful for the blessings in my life. Help me to recognize and appreciate the good things you have given me, even when they may not be what I expected. Grant me the ability to see your hand at work in my life and to trust in your goodness. May I be mindful of your presence and your love, and may I always turn to you in times of need. O bless me with wisdom, faith, and hope, and help me to be a blessing to others — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
