You Can Have Peace

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, April 3, 2025

Today's Text: John 14:25-31

Key Verse: John 14:27 (ESV): "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid."

These things I have spoken unto you was the necessary conclusion of Christ's discourse on the nature of our troubled world and what us yet to come. He sums it up that we all need and can experience is peace in Him. Anywhere else, is pain, disappointment and tribulation, but these has all been conquered in Him, and so cannot interrupt the true peace that is in Christ. This peace ("shalom") in Christ was foretold in the Old Testament as something that encompasses completeness, welfare, and well-being. It is both a divine gift and a consequence of living in accordance with God's laws. Leviticus 26:6 illustrates this, where God promises peace to Israel as a reward for obedience.

That Old Testament could only be experienced in the Messianic promise. Isaiah 9:6 foreshadowed the Messiah as the "Prince of Peace" who alone will herald an era of genuine, profound and lasting peace. Jesus is the fulfillment of this peace. He fulfills all Old Testament peace promises. That is why in our text today, He assurance those who follow Him: "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid." Anyone who put their faith in Christ is justified through that faith, and has peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. This is because, in Christ, the enmity and hostility between man and God is resolved and we are fully reconciled.

So, are you struggling to find peace in the midst of life's challenges? Remember that Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and freely offers you peace that transcends worldly understanding. He gives peace through His sacrificial death and resurrection. He teaches peace through His life as the incarnate of God. He brings us into a kingdom of peace, where love, compassion, and harmony reign; and ultimately offers inner peace to those who follow Him, regardless of external circumstances. Therefore, whatever it is that you are passing through in your life, you can have peace: you can find peace with God and harmony in your relationships and interactions. You can find hope and comfort in conflict, turmoil, or distress. The secret is draw closer to Jesus, and you shall ⁰O 0pexperience the profound and lasting peace that only He can provide.

Action Steps: Cultivate obedience to the Gospel because the peace you seek is both a gift from God and a fruit of obedience to Him. Reflect on areas where you can align your life more closely with God's laws. As you navigate life's challenges, draw closer to Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Faith in Him is the foundation of all peace. So why not spend time in prayer, thanking God for this gift and seeking a deeper understanding of what it means to have peace with Him.

Quote for the Day: "Perhaps the simplest and easiest definition of peace is when a person finds God and experiences His presence in the midst of trouble." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You today, asking for the peace that only You can provide. Help me to cultivate obedience and draw closer to Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Give me a deeper understanding of what it means to have peace with You — in Jesus' most glorious name. Amen.
