You Can’t Rob Caesar to Pay God, or God to Pay Caesar (Part 2)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, October 16, 2021

Today’s Text: Matthew 22:15-22

Key Verses: Matthew 22:21 (ESV): “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.

In Christ’s days, denarius was equivalent to tax coin. And it was the State requirement. Everyone gave the silver coin as tribute to Caesar. Indeed, the coin featured engraved image and inscription of Caesar. We have many lessons to learn from Jesus’ response. If you are not content with the minted system you find yourself, correct it don’t contend with it. Caesar minted the coin for his and state gain and purposes. He reserves the emporia right to demand his taxes. Each day, we find ourselves amid numerous minted systems. As long as you agreed to work in a paid position, your employer reserves the right to have you serve a time on a term. Christians must show good example by not shortchanging that Caesar on his time and term. Or, don’t take his job, or go with him.

On the other hand, the human soul and world was minted by God. He blessed us with all the good things of life including time and seasons. Ask yourself: is your allegiance fully pledged to Him? When it is the time to pay God the denarius of worship due to Him, do you rob Him of that time? Do you divide your heart and time between Him and your businesses, or friends? The three Hebrews gave the Chaldean authority their unalloyed loyalty but they did not let it cross the boundaries of their loyalty with God. There has been times in history when Christians are killed for their faith; yet they did not yield to whatever it is that represented Caesar. Always give Caesar his due — do diligence in all civil matters — but never rob God His due. “Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.” (Ps 100:3) Also, God’s word admonished us, who have been brought from death to life, to offer every part of our life to Him as instrument of righteousness.

Quote for the Day: “Believers have dual citizenship: one earthly and the other heavenly; one temporary and the other eternal. We must never allow he physical to rob us of the spiritual.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, let my eagerness and desires be upon the things of lasting values always, in Jesus' name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
