Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, October 19, 2021
Today’s Text: Luke 19:1-10
Key Verses: Luke 19:5 (ESV): “And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.””

Perhaps, one of the greatest aspects of the Christians faith is the “whosoever will may come.” I’m always thrilled by my memory of old time Sunday evening rallies in which the songs “Just As I Am” and “Whosoever Will May Come” were mostly chorused as ministers make the gospel call. That experience is so scarce and almost gone nowadays; but the eager “Zacchaeuses” who need them most are still pretty much here. While it is true that convenient lifestyle, riches and opportunities beclouded the hearts of most of them; a few sincerely thirsty men and women are out there in our neighborhood, in the church, at the local grocery store, in the school, the post office, banking hall, busy streets, and even in the family. They are disadvantaged because we assume they are living fine and just okay. Zacchaeus was disadvantaged, but Jesus did not look away, or walk past him.
In like manner, Jesus is calling us to the Sycamore this morning. Wherever the next Zacchaeus may be found is the Sycamore: our neighborhood, the church, the local grocery store, the school, the post office, banking hall, busy streets, work places, and our family. Don’t assume their wealth, prestige, busyness, poverty, or all their complex issues will prevent them from coming to Jesus. As far as we can look up and find them, Jesus Christ the savior can come in to them and sup with them. Even if they are men of degraded reputation, Jesus specializes in saving men from bad life and name. Men who find Jesus are changed to what they are supposed to be. So, what are you going to do with the next Zacchaeus across your desk, pew or street? Would you act like Jesus: look and speak to them? Or would you just pass by?
Quote for the Day: “Jesus’s love overcomes any barrier. It reaches for the fractured people as much as it does the finest ones.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I heard You calling me to walk with you to wherever the Zacchaeus are. Help me to follow You
wherever You lead. Help me to help others find their way into Your kingdom. Lead me to every Zacchaeus until the all find grace, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D
