Today’s Text: Psalm 46:1-11

Key Verse: Psalm 46:10 (ESV): “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"

Ododoeye and I had been on a musical project which had lingered for a couple of years. But when it came through at a time that it pleases God that it comes through. It was in the middle of a major noisome moment of the notorious global pandemic, COVID-19. Everyone really needed a break. Yes, our entire world needed a quiet! — And, like a gavel on a salient verdict, God launched the musical: “Be Still!” by Pastor Doris. Somehow sometimes, we have all tried to quiet a loud room. We all know how tough it is to quiet a crowd. I can say that it, most of the time, does not work. We sometimes employ a loud hand-bell to stop the congregation from a loud prayer. Yet, it doesn’t always work. But, there is this formidable sound of quiet that I have found to be more effective. It can quiet any crowd — it’s the whisper of a “shhh.”

Don’t you feel that this was God’s method at the Red Sea, and in today’s Psalm? God whispers here a most impressive “shhh” to quiet our fears, calm our troubled spirit, and still us from self hurts. All He wants us to do in the middle of the noise is ‘Be still, and know that I am God.’” He already knows how loud our voices of fear are. He knows how noisome the pestilences are. And, yes, He understands that, with all our living realities, it’s so difficult to be quiet; and except we are, the enemy takes advantage of us and impede our spiritual experience. The devil bombards us with noise because he knows that when sound frequencies cluster, the cleanest instruction becomes inaudible to the human ear. That is why God, in the middle of those frequency jams and clusters, sends His call to quietude: “Be still!” God knows we are in a time of trouble and war; but, the way we see God still the storms is if and when we yield His call to a quiet trust.

Quote for the Day: “The louder our lives get, with the different frequencies of fear, worries, and regrets; the more we lose our sense of hearing even when it is God saying, ‘Peace be still’.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please me to be still and know that you are God right here, right now — always! Stop my sense of urgency when it takes me from your presence. Teach me to strive harder to shiver deeper at your word. Take away the seed of impatience and still my mind — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
