Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, January 30, 2022
Today’s Text: Genesis 26:17-33
Key Verse: Genesis 26:18 (NLT): “Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died, and he gave them the same names his father had given them”

It has pleased God to make His church, yes, the body of believers, His children wells of living water which has helped, is helping, and shall help to provide spiritual life to the rest of His entire creation. Christians have also been called the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We are those chosen by God to continue the ministries of Christ, who is the living water on earth. Unfortunately, as we can see, the cisterns of our churches and many Christians seem so broken; and the living water is running out. The church that sprung medical missions, educational and literacy, economic sustenance, and beamed spiritual lights upon dark places on earth is now, unfortunately, only the shadow of the past. Our wells seem blocked, and we all seem to be in spiritual inertia.
Like Isaac wanted to do, many of us are now going down to Egypt to seek fresh water and fertile lands. Our wells are covered and we are in spiritual drought and famine. Nations are barren and dry and churches are in their leanest times. We don’t need to resort to Egypt. That’s anything that represents civilization and spiritual pollution. We must return to God and re-dig the ancient wells that our fathers had dug. Isaac experienced setbacks; we shall face the same. Isaac lost some wells; we may have some losses, but we must strive on till we reconnect the old cistern. We must reopen the well to flourish again in the land. This is what the church needs to cause needed spiritual revival: a revival of holiness and spiritual courage to share God’s love that symbolizes the fresh living water of the true old well.
Quote for the Day: “God makes room for people who thirst and seek the living water. He connects them to the well, and causes them to overflow with His love until they spring forth rivers from their belly.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please cause us to return with gladness and joyful hearts to our well of salvation. Move us, by Your Spirit, to re-dig, tend, and nurture our wells of living water so that we can yet again nourish our world for You— in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Please enjoy your Sunday… With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
