A New Beginning

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, October, 2023

Today’s Text: Isaiah 43:1-19

Key Verse: Isaiah 43:19 (NKJV): “Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth;

Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

Before us stretches a new month, a new beginning. Already, this year alone, 9 months are gone, and put away forever. And by "remember ye not the former things," God invites us to forget about all the failures, distrust disappointments, fears, anxieties, and resentments of the past that are capable of holding you against progress or others. Put all the grudges and criticisms away and begin again.

Everyone loves to start over and refresh. But we can’t even match God will to help us out on that. He promises to do a new thing—something that has not hitherto occurred; something unheard of: occurrence that shall far surpass all that he had done in former times. For you as a believer, each day welcomes a host of blessings and new beginnings for you—at work, home, church, or even play. This new month, God is turning your grief into gladness.

Stop looking at what happened in the past months as all bad, or dwelling on them; lest they’d hold you down. "Behold, I will do a new thing" is a call to a new alertness. Set yourself to see something different. See all old things in your life as crosswalks to new prospects full of blessing, possibilities, and fruitfulness. In fact, you are supposed to remember not the former things. What this means is that God give us a chance to wipe-the-slate-clean and start anew.

Quote for the Day: “Two most probable reasons most Christians fail to have new start: first, the can’t forget the former things. And, second, they fail to trust God for the promise newness.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer:  Dear Lord, I thank You for this new month, and new beginning that is set before me. I choose You over all the things of the past, Lord. I choose to depend on You, trust You, and I am ready for all that You would do for me from this day forward — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
