Today’s Text: Psalm 90:1-17
Key Verse: Psalm 90:12 (KJV): ”So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.”
Times and seasons happen to us in life that leaves us great unforgettable lessons. But no one may be wise towards God except he is taught by the great teacher, who himself is the wisdom of God. As I celebrate my birthday today, the secret of true wisdom opens before me in a brand new way. Anyone who would learn genuine wisdom, must pray to be taught by the Holy Spirit. True wisdom does not come from secular learning; otherwise, philosophers of this world would not have been so lost and empty. Paul had been bred up in both Greek and Jewish learning; but he understands that God had already made foolish the wisdom of this world (1 Corinthians 1:20)
The Heart of this Psalm is simple: Instead of wasting our precious fleeting days in pursuing fancies, it is better to seek a pathway true wisdom. And the genuine intelligible way to seek a wise heart is to make God, not man, not just our reckoner of the days; but also our teacher. We must pray earnestly to God to teach us — by His Spirit and His word. The only way to apply true wisdom to this fleeting life; consider its shortness, miseries, and the certainty of heaven and reckoning before God is when we devote ourselves to the learning and practice of true wisdom.
