A Resolved Life

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, January 3, 2022

Today’s Text: 2 Timothy 2:14-26

Key Verse: 2 Timothy 2:15 (ESV): “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

Goals and resolutions are very important in our lives. They afford us the opportunity to evaluate whatever we got right and also to think about those things we'd like to see improve in the future. A person not making resolves cannot move forward. He is unable to make progress in his life. He is stagnant. Stagnation is never in the will of God for His people. Therefore, as the year is still new, there are ample opportunities to be even better and take dedicated steps towards becoming better persons — believer or minister, parent or child, leader or follower, and most especially, in the words of Paul, a better approved workmen of God.

This scripture is an declaration rather than a recommendation: it is an imperative guideline to live the life consistent with the call of God over our lives. We must be resolved, this year, as always to sturdy, not to please men, but to please God. Resolution calls for sturdiness. We must set our face like a flint to be approve of/by God—even if men reject us—else we will not be approved servants of Jesus Christ. This year, we have a journey to take, and a calling to walk in. We must be resolved to live out a life showing our light to the world and revealing darkness darkness wherever found. We must be resolved to live a life that commend us to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

Quote for the Day: “The Christian resolve is a lifetime commitment to a lifestyle efficiency that renounces shameful ways and glorifies God on earth.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for Your mindfulness of us. I believe in Your word and I’m ready for Your great and mighty blessings — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D
