Today’s Text: Psalm 116:1-19
Key Verses: Psalm 116:7 (NASB): “Return to your rest, O my soul; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.”

Many people think that they are invincible and unstoppable. Whereas, no one except God may be invincible and unstoppable. And, it is only when the invincible and unstoppable God carries us that we are unstoppable. Otherwise, we are frail, limited, weak, dying and helpless. No matter how strong we are in pursuit of work and wealth the night always comes, and we are forced to a non-elective diminishing return. That’s how we are created by God. We naturally retire to refresh and rebounce. A failure to acknowledge our need for bodily rest is not only totally detrimental to living, but also kills our spirit being.
For a believer in Christ to prosper in spirit, he must be in bodily health (3 John 1:2). That is why David needed to call on his worried and buffeted soul to return to its rest in God. David seems to realize the futility and endlessness of human struggles, and his hopelessness outside of God. And, therefore, places a return call unto his innermost being—a call to abandon anxiety and embrace the perfect tranquility that springs only from trust in God. To find a full and complete Sabbath (rest), we must return from our hustle and bustles that draw us far from God.
Most of the struggles that break us are needless if we did not stagger away from God’s plan as migrants and truants from His purpose. But there is still hope if we yield the call to return to His rest, which David calls your rest. What this means is that God’s rest becomes our rest when we flee from all false hopes, and returns to Him. We need to learn the things we should hold on to, and those we need to let go. We need to escape all the needless bloodshot eyes. We do not need that “journey to Tarshish.” So why must we pay the fare when we can simply return, right now.
Quote for the Day: “Rest is never to be found in created things; rather, it is to be found only in the Creator." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for calling me to return. Please help me to yield Your call. Break my protocols and lead me into what You have for me each day so that I may not to miss Your rest. Give me the lasting strength of returning and abiding in You — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
