Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, April 23, 2020
Today’s Text: 1 Samuel 2:1-10
Key Verse: 1 Samuel 2:2 (HCSB): "There is no one holy like the LORD. There is no one besides You! And there is no rock like our God.”
Have you ever wondered what best song humans may sing to more adequately figuratively capture or represent the character of God? Do we even have an adequate language or ability to conceptualize God’s true worth and majesty? Are the words of Paul Tillich not so true that “more true about God are our thinking about Him than our speaking; and more true about Him is His being than our thinking.”
Like Hannah, our personal experiences, and/or encounter of God help our views of His character a whole lot. To her (Hannah) — a woman badly scorned and humiliated, whose reproaches are out in the public, and needing a shield — no other objects on earth may be better employed in God’s praise than His solidness, firmness, constancy; eternity, security, and unchanging nature. Her husband failed her, but like rocks that surround Jerusalem, she found God always faithful. You too can sing to Jesus, your Rock and Salvation!
Quote for the Day: "One of the most figurative capture of the essence and eternity of the Christ is His being The Rock.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: O Lord, I take refuge in You. Let me never be put to shame. Deliver, rescue, and save me, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
