Today’s Text: Genesis 6:9-22
Key Verse: Genesis 6:9 (ESV): "These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God."

Most of us are familiar with the story of Noah and the flood. The larger narrative reveals the exceptional character of a man and his relationship with God. The story reveals that walking with God is possible despite the untowardness of any generation in which we find ourselves. The description of Noah as a righteous man, blameless in his generation emphasizes his moral integrity and distinction from the wickedness of his contemporaries. The assertion: "Noah walked with God" is a metaphorical expression that conveys his close relationship with God. To walk with God is not like taking a stroll along a path but something that implies deep trust, obedience, and fellowship with God.
In the original text, the word "walked" is the Hebrew halak, which is a common verb that means to go, to walk, to live, or to conduct oneself. The life of Noah, therefore, is a beckon to us that we too can conduct ourselves in such intimate walk with God. As for him, Noah conducted himself godly amidst a world filled with violence, corruption, and wickedness: an age so bad that God had to send a flood to destroy humanity. His exceptional faith and obedience lead him to build an ark that God used to save him, his family, and two of every kind of animal from the devastating flood.
So, I can say unequivocally that walking with God is not about casual attendance of religious services or going through motions of worship. It is a purposeful and obedient journey. And, it is not a matter of how fast or how far we go, but rather how closely we follow God. Since Noah was able to trust and follow God's ways, even in a world filled with wickedness and corruption; we too can intentionally walk with God and trust Him with every step, even when the path ahead is uncertain. And, it might help at this point if we all pause to ask ourselves these questions: Are we living in obedience to His Word and following His guidance with every step, even when the path ahead is uncertain? Do we desire a deeper connection with God? Can we trust God's promises and guidance in our lives? Are we ready to walk with God?
Quote for the Day: "Walk with God, and He will walk with you. Talk with God, and He will talk with you. Wait on God, and He will wait on you. Obey God, and all His creation will obey you. If you want to be heard by God, first learn to listen." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, help us to walk with You intentionally and purposefully. May our trust in You grow stronger each day, and may we live in obedience to Your Word. Thank You for the example of Noah's faithfulness — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
