Loving God With All Your Heart

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Sunday, March 15, 2026

Today’s Text: Deuteronomy 6:4–6

Key Verse: “And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” — Deuteronomy 6:5 (KJV)

Today's Bible passage records Moses’ instructions to Israel as they prepared to enter the Promised Land. Surrounded by nations with many gods and divided loyalties, Israel was called to a different standard—a wholehearted, exclusive love for the one true God. The confession, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD,” known as the Shema, became the daily declaration of Jewish faith and identity. Loving God “with all your heart” was not a suggestion; it was the central command that governed all other commandments. God was not seeking occasional attention, but undivided affection.

In Scripture, the heart is more than emotion; it includes thoughts, desires, motives, and will. To love God with all your heart means He becomes the supreme affection and authority of your inner life. It means your desires are shaped by His desires, your motives purified by His presence, and your decisions guided by His pleasure. This love is not a feeling that comes and goes; it is a settled, covenantal commitment that says, “Lord, You are my first and greatest priority.”

Wholehearted love challenges every form of half-hearted Christianity. It confronts the idols that quietly compete for our devotion—success, comfort, approval, pleasure, or even ministry itself. God does not accept a shared throne. Loving Him with all your heart means no area is off-limits: your ambitions, relationships, secret thoughts, and hidden struggles all come under His loving rule. This love is not forced; it is a response to His prior love for us. We love Him, because He first loved us.

When God has our heart, obedience becomes a joy, not a burden. Prayer becomes communion, not mere routine. Worship becomes a lifestyle, not just a service moment. Trials, instead of breaking us away from God, press us deeper into His love. A heart fully given to God may still face pain, but it will never lack purpose. Loving God with all your heart does not mean you never struggle; it means that even in struggle, you keep returning to Him as your source, your satisfaction, and your security.

Action Steps: Take time today to honestly examine your heart before God. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal anything that has quietly taken more of your love, focus, or trust than the Lord Himself. Confess these before Him and consciously re-center your heart on God. Declare in prayer: “Lord, I choose to love You above all else. Take my thoughts, desires, and motives—let them glorify You.” Spend unhurried time in worship and the Word, not to get something from God, but simply to give Him your attention and affection.

Quote for the Day: “Loving God with all your heart means there is no room left for rivals on the throne of your soul.” — (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me with a perfect and unwavering love. I confess that my heart has often been divided, distracted, and drawn to lesser things. Today, I surrender my whole heart to You again. Purify my desires, align my motives, and deepen my devotion. Teach me to love You above all else and to find my true joy and identity in You alone—in Jesus’s name, Amen.
