Today’s Text: Zechariah 2:6-13
Key Verses: Zechariah 2:8 (ESV): “For thus said the Lord of hosts, after his glory sent me to the nations who plundered you, for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye.”
Our meditation today is on the nature, extent and glory of the love of God for all believers. Zechariah in his oracle caught an apt pictorial vision describing God’s conquering love for us. He pictures each believer as an apple of the eyes of God. Like Solomon pictures God’s love as a banner, which in other words, may be regarded as a flag or placard that identifies us as God’s team, and territory. Zechariah’s text serves as an assurance that we are not ordinary. We occupy a special place with and before God. Being an apple of His eyes means more than being loved. It means that we bear a special mark that endears us so much to God’s very heart.
Friends, God has used Zechariah to declare to you already that you are God’s special possession. So, while we live in a fast moving world, when it’s so easy to feel so inferior in the mace of things. It's so very easy to feel ordinary or less, or even like you do not matter at all, God wants you to know that you are peculiar. You are not worthless as the devil suggests. You are special in the eyes of the Lord God almighty, who created everything in the universe.
This scripture tells us that we not only matter to God, but we are the apple of His very eye. And to be the apple of God’s eye means that He cherishes and cares for you just as a man cherishes and protects his eyeballs. As an eyeball is a special creation, so are you. You are neither an accident nor ordinary; no, not an afterthought. As the eye is so special in the body, so are you a special part of God. And He shall never allow any evil to touch you.
Quote for the Day: “Don't waste tremendous time trying to get people’s attention or interest; you are already in the eyes and the gaze that matters most.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray for courage to live as the apple of your eyes. Please continue to keep me close as I step out each day. Strengthen me so that fear does not rob me of my place and peace in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
