Today’s Text: 1 Kings 21:1-16
Key Verse: 1 Kings 21:4 (ESV) — “And Ahab went into his house vexed and sullen because of what Naboth the Jezreelite had said to him, for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he lay down on his bed and turned away his face and would eat no food.”

This text is a double edged sword. Yesterday, our spiritual searchlight was upon Naboth’s disposition to Ahab’s intention. Today, God wants us to learn from Ahab — a man who was so favored and blessed of the Lord to be was the seventh king of Israel, by his succession of King Omri, his father. God wants us to learn from Ahab’s disposition to life. Ahab, a man, who though was so blessed and elevated, became a very wicked king before the Lord, and a bad example to the people. Looking at him in our text, we can see just how we are not to be: how we must never allow lack of contentment to rule our heart.
Just take a careful look at Ahab here, and you will see how courteousness leads to several sins. Lack of contentment led Ahab’s soul to despise all God’s blessing in his life. It led him to suffer an unnecessary embarrassment, and to betrayed his authority and office. In the same way, so many of us put our back down and bow before created things. We falter before people and disregard God’s grace because we are not content of what God has done for us. Also, lack of contentment robs a man of his peace. Ahab lost his sleep over something that is not given him. Ahab actually has become an image of who some of today’s readers actually are!
But you can choose to be different! Yes, by not allowing your blood pressure rise over anything that God did not give you. Ahab’s discontent life led him to frustration, self pity and search for pity party. Beware! Because the devil always positions a Jezebel's pity party somewhere around — a friend, a false prophet, a wizard or a family member — whom he will use to worsen the case. Jezebel motivated Ahab’s advancement from a discontent life to a murderous life. God wants us to be content with what we have.
Quote for the Day: “We are in a generation that is purely discontent: where people seek what God forbids, and forbid what God seeks.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: O Lord, I ask you to help me to appreciate all your faithful provision for me, and live a grateful life, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
