Today’s Text: Psalm 71:1-13

Key Verse: Psalm 71:3 (NLT): “Be my rock of safety where I can always hide. Give the order to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.”

As we look back with heavy hearts on our losses and pains resulting from September 11, 2001’s event that changed our entire world, Stanley Praimnath’s testimony of his personal experience helps in many ways. He was working on the 81st floor of the World Trade Center South Tower when he saw an airplane flying directly toward the building. His world was suddenly ending. What would he do? He prayed a quick prayer: “Lord, I can’t do this! You take over!” What followed was devastating. The plane crash killed over two thousand people and got him trapped behind a wall of debris. He was there hopeless but continued to pray as loud as possible, crying for help. God sent the help and he was rescued.

Whenever we are faced with terrible life threats, we can always cry out to God. David knows how to do that a lot. He always prays for God to be his help. Looking at the content of David'sprayer in today's text, we too can be sure of God’s nearness when we face danger and enemies. God is always near us. He is our present help at odd times, and indeed, at all times. Like David, we can always ask Him to “Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go..” Hear how David earnestly asked that God will never be “far from me, my God; come quickly, God, to help me.” You too can pray like that if you can come to a settled conviction on Jesus Christ as your rock and fortress. You can hold firmly to Him as a sure rock. Yes, you can experience the power of God unto salvation, and to deliver. God never failed David. “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken...” He said. If you let God be your rock, He will never let you down.

Quote for the Day: “Great rocks move and melt because they are not true rocks. God is our true Rock. He is eternal. He is steadfast. He never moves.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord. thank you for calming my fears and giving me the power of sound mind and sonship. I trust you Lord to continue to be my rock, in Jesus' name. Amen.
