Be Not Afraid

Today’s Text: Isaiah 41:8-16

Key Verse: Isaiah 41:10 (ASV): “Fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

None of us can begin to express how much our hearts are gripped by real fear whenever we look around at everything that is happening in our world. But we can find the lyrics of Robert J. Dufford’s “Be not afraid,” an amazing pointer to the deeper and powerful promise of scripture that when you cross the barren desert you shall not die of thirst. You may wander far but you shall be brought back to safety though you do not know the way. Dufford affirms that even when you speak your words in foreign lands, all will understand.

Protestant Reformer Martin Luther wrote the words and composed the tune of “A Mighty Fortress is our God” to celebrate the sovereign power of God over all earthly and spiritual forces that may ever rise against us. He also assures us of the sure hope we have in Christ. Therefore, regardless of that terror, you shall see the face of God and live. Only be not afraid

These words are drawn directly from today’s text and countless other promises of scripture. The Lord always goes before us His people as long as we follow Him. He blessed us with His presence and give us rest. He speaks with us tenderly to be not afraid because He is with us: not just within call, but very present with us.

Do you feel weak? God strengthens you. thee. Are you in want of friends, or they forsake you? He will help you in that time of need. Even if you are so close to a fall, hear what He says: I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Even when hosts of callous, jealous and incensed men encamp against you: for those who strive with God's people seek their own ruin. Only be not afraid.

Quote for the Day: “The Jews who foreshadowed God’s new covenant people had nothing to fear. So, why should those for whom the promises are reserved be afraid?!” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you don't measure me by my doubting or not being afraid. Instead, you strengthen me not to doubt and fear. Lord, hear my cries today, and by the power of your word, cast out all worries and concerns from my minds and hearts so that I may seek to love and serve only you, who live and reign forever — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
