Today’s Text: John 14:25-31
Key Verse: John 14:27 (NKJV) — “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

There is just no doubt that tough/end/perilous times are already here, but we must let Christ’s promise in today’s scripture text sink into our hearts. It will give us inward peace that will filter through our conscience to our actions and then to our world. This was true of German pastor Paul Gerhardt during the Thirty Years' War in the 17th century. He and his family were forced to flee from their home. One night, they found refuge in a small village inn: homeless and afraid, his wife broke down and cried openly in despair. To comfort her, Gerhardt reminded her of this scripture promise. He reminded her of God's provisions and protection. Then, he went out to be alone in the garden where he too broke down and wept, feeling he had come to his darkest hour.
However, soon afterward, Gerhardt felt the burden lifted and sensed the Lord's presence anew. He then took his pen and wrote a hymn that has brought comfort to many. "Give to the winds thy fears; hope, and be undismayed; God hears thy sighs and counts thy tears; God shall lift up thy head. Through waves and clouds and storms He gently clears the way. Wait thou His time, so shall the night soon end in joyous day." It is often in our darkest times that God makes His presence known most clearly. He uses our sufferings and troubles to show us that He is our only source of strength. And when we see this truth, like Pastor Gerhardt, we receive new hope. Are you facing a great trial? Are you in what seems like your darkest moment, let this scripture be your comfort. Take heart. Put yourself in God's hands. Be not dismayed. God will come through for you. He will give you a "song in the night."
Quote for the Day: “A man is dismayed to the same extent at which he lets his difficulties get to his heart.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, in whatever I face, teach me to hold unto your word in Isaiah 41:10 that says: do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. Please strengthen me and help me; uphold me with my righteous right hand, in Jesus name. Amen.
