Be Still (Part One)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, March 18, 2022

Today’s Text: Psalm 46:1-11

Key Verse: Psalm 46:10 (ESV): “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Perhaps, the toughest thing to do is do nothing especially in the face of trauma. Everyone tries to take charge of their situations when the chips are down. But God wants us to learn the discipline of resigning our personal struggles to a living faith that trusts Him when the going gets tough. Sons of Korah want all believers to always hold their peace in demonstration of their trust in His abilities. This text kept coming to me like a rushing water for days now; and I believe that God is really teaching me the discipline of holding my peace to lift my concerns to Him.

There are about 13 times in the Bible where the phrase “be still” appears. At large, through each place, God wants us to learn how valuable a calm spirit is when facing different challenges. Perhaps, the best thing to do in tough moments of life is to quit struggling but simply trust God. I have experienced people worsening their circumstances just because they said or did something when nothing was actually needed to be said or done. I’ve watched families put their conflict on the edge and cause total wreckage the more they struggle with stuffs. Brethren, is God asking you to simply STOP and ask Him to show forth His strength and glory in that situation?’” Please, just do it. Be still.

Quote for the Day: “If we ever needed a summary for Psalms 46, it should be: Pause and reflect on the raging storm to hear God’s calming voice while He humbles your foe and fills your mouth with jubilant songs.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for Your command to hold our peace in trouble. Please, give us all around peace in our mind, body, soul, and spirit. Heal and remove everything that is causing stress, grief, and sorrow in our lives — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
