Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, March 19, 2022
Today’s Text: Exodus 14:10-18
Key Verse: Exodus 14:14 (NIV): “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

In my The King’s Verdict, a Christian fiction book which was acted and screened to depict how God’s people should hold their peace while serving divine interest and mandates, Aberefa, a wicked Ifa priest, held a whole people to a spiritual hostage. There was no way they could rest from his spiritual tyranny. But in a chieftain council, the troubled head of the community was charged to rest his mind and give off his fears. At the end, the village head, the villagers, and the visiting young gospeller himself found the words of this scripture so true.
Rest is an important theme throughout scriptures. This must be so because God knows the dangers of agitated living. He knows how we all feel fidgety, or restless and develop uneasiness and can’t sit still or focus at those moments of agitation. Yes, being still to find rest in God is more important than we all realized. However, while it is not easy for the natural man to hold his peace in the face of horror, today’s scripture offers us a very comforting word. God issues a command and at the same time gives us a good ground to obey His command to “be still,” “be silent,” and/or “rest.” He promised to fight for you, and you have only to rest.”
Indeed, God wants us to be at rest. It is noteworthy that here, and every other places in scripture where and when the words “be still” is given, it always comes as a fiat, a command voice. Check out your life and situation: that troubled water and wicked villain will obey the voice of God if you first do the same. Yes, that storm will “be still” if while it blows against your soul, it finds an unwavering obedience and submission to the word of God which bids you “still!”
Quote for the Day: “An ancient Israeli magic wellness drug shares the same root as the word for still probably because of the healing and sanity we find when we learn to rest our minds on God.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, You know my heart better than I know it myself. You know my struggles and You hold each hope and fear in Your caring hands. Teach me to hold my peace and rest on your promises— in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
