Today’s Text: Haggai 2:1–9
Key Verse: Haggai 2:4 (ESV) — “Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, declares the Lord. Be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land, declares the Lord. Work, for I am with you, declares the Lord of hosts.”

This text comes to a discouraged people who had returned from exile with great hope, but whose work on God’s house had grown faint in the middle of the season. The temple foundation had been laid, yet the glory of the former house made many wonder whether their present labor still mattered. God’s word through Haggai is a call to revive the work, because divine assignment does not lose value when progress seems slow, incomplete, or unimpressive. The middle of the year is often such a moment: enthusiasm can fade, pressure can increase, and faith can quietly grow tired. But the Lord says, “Work, for I am with you.”
Haggai ministered to a remnant who had become distracted, weary, and spiritually stalled. They were rebuilding God’s house, but opposition, delay, and comparison had weakened their hands. Yet God did not send Haggai merely to inform them; He sent him to reignite them. The command to “be strong” is not empty motivational speech. It is covenant language, because the presence of the Lord is what makes unfinished work fruitful and what turns small beginnings into lasting testimony. What the people needed was not a new assignment, but renewed fire for the assignment already given.
Today’s threshing reminds us that many works are not dead; they are simply in need of revival. Your prayer life, ministry, family responsibilities, business, studies, and callings may not be finished, but they may need fresh strength, fresh focus, and fresh obedience. God revives work by reviving the worker. He breathes again on tired hands, discouraged hearts, and vision that has been delayed. And when He restores our strength, the work no longer feels like burden alone, but like partnership with the Lord of hosts.
What must we take home from this truth? Do not measure your current season by the size of your progress alone. Measure it by the nearness of God’s presence. The Lord who called you to build is still with you in the middle of the year, and His presence is enough to revive what looked slow, small, or stagnant. When God is in the work, delay is not denial, and weariness is not the end.
Action Steps: Today, identify the work, assignment, or burden that has grown weary in your heart. Ask God for renewed strength, renewed focus, and renewed joy in obedience. Return to the task with faith, not pressure, knowing that the Lord of hosts is with you. Do one practical thing today that moves your God-given work forward.
Quote for the Day: “Though God is with you, and already blessing the works of your hand, the middle of the year still remains a moment of revival.”— (Simon Olatunji #quotablequotes)
Let Us Pray: Lord, I thank You because You are with me in every assignment You have given me. Revive my work, restore my strength, and renew my passion for the things You have called me to build. Deliver me from discouragement, delay, and distraction. Let Your presence breathe fresh life into my labor, and make this season fruitful for Your glory. In Jesus’ most glorious name. Amen.
