Be Thou an Example

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, July 29, 2023

Today’s Text: 1 Timothy 4:6-16

Key Verse: 1 Timothy 4:12 (ESV): “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”

Why is it important in the heart of Christ, and in the minds of the early Christians to live exemplary lives? Why did apostle Paul write to Timothy, who was his own son in the faith, exhorting him to be an example of the believers in word every manner possible in all positions and dispositions? The reason is simple: As a believer, you can share your testimony and give witness to the saving power and grace of Jesus in many ways.

You can do so by the words you speak, or by the examples you set. People can look at the manner in which you live your life, and realize whom you have been with. Quite a lot need work in today’s Christian community: on one hand we deal with extreme permissiveness in which so called believers wallow in immorality, pornography, and the power of worldly pressure cause many to be tossed on a sea of sin and crushed to lose their identity and forfeited their place in Christ.

On the other hand, those who claim holy lives are crushed on the jagged reefs of pride, reckless ego and abused spirituality so much that people of the world themselves realize how much we neither honor biblical heritage nor live out the truth we preach. That is why God is calling us to let our light so shine so much that it brings glory to God’s name. He wants us to be patterns and model after which anything is made or fashioned. This will then make it impossible for any one to question the authority of our Christian graces and standing.

Quote for the Day: “A Christian is likened to a resemblance, a die, a stamp, a shape, a style, and model that people only need to see and know how a believer should be.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You that I can be a good example in the world. Please forgive me for the times I am not gentle and truthful. Help me to walk in loving service to others. Teach me to live a purpose-filled life— in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
