Today’s Text: 1 Kings 19:1-8
Key Verse: 1 Kings 19:4b (ESV)— And he asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”

There comes a time in a life when the inner strength and courage begin to die and wither inside. In that time, the strongest of men can feel so weak and weary. And the only urge remaining within the soul might be to quit. We all come to this point time and time again. Elijah, the Tiishbite has been a great man so far. He has been full of courage and valor. He stood when those around him fall. He spoke when and where others muted and failed. He is the man of prayer, and the man on Mount Carmel. But the same prophet images to us that we all still need to deal with our urge to say enough when it is not.
God wants us to know that He still has many more glorious days ahead. There are still more lands to conquer and more victories to win; it is not time for you to throw up a hand and walk away. Yes, things go crazy and overwhelming; but is it yet time to say enough?! No, it’s not! It is never over until God is done. Some of those difficult moments that prompt us to want to say enough are part of God’s notes of lessons: with them He teaches us that we are not invincible. On Carmel, Elijah might have thought himself invincible, but see how, at Horeb he is easily feeling like an unmitigated coward. But he was neither, just like you and I are not.
Before you say enough, open your heart to what God is teaching you from that present feeling of emptiness and dryness. You are not finished because the wine seems finished. Only learn to turn your party to the water of life, and you will have better wine of/for all time. Passing through that phase of your life does not make you a failure. Delayed answer to prayer does not equal spiritual abandonment. Even when you have a deep consciousness of failure through sin; it is God’s loving call to you, not a rejecting lull. So, before you say enough, before you conclude you’re not better than your father; listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, saying: rise up, gird your loins again, and eat! And take your journey.
Quote for the Day: “All humans face moments of despondency to remind us of our dependence on God.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Almighty God, whenever I feel so tired, weary and discouraged, and nothing is going my way, give me hope that this situation is going to turn around, and give me strength to go on, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
Have a fabulous Saturday,
