Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, August 5, 2022
Today’s Text: Mark 6:1-6
Key Verse: Mark 6:3 (NIV): “Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.”

What do you do if and when people prejudice the minds of others against you? What do you do when you feel denigrated and despised? Well, no one may be sure sure of what you’d do; but we may be certain of what you’d feel because the Bible tells us that a froward tongue sows strife: and a whisperer separates chief friends (Proverbs 16:28) In the days of Jesus’ flesh his countrymen who knew Him well enough despised Him because of the lowly life of his earthly parents. But they also tried to prejudice others against Him. The comment “is not this the carpenter?” was not to identify or introduce Him to those who do not know him. It was to disparage Him before them.
So sorry for you if you let others possess you with a familiar spirit. This does not necessarily mean some evil association with a kind of witchcraft in this context. It refers the a sense of scorn and contempt that becoming over-familiar with holy things of God bring. Can you imagine how much those Nazarenes lost by obstinate prejudices against Jesus! They rejected Him and lost the opportunity to receive the power to become sons of God. They despised Him and He could perform no good works of healing the sick, raising the dead and delivering those who are oppressed of the devil among them. Can I pray for someone today?! May the Lord deliver you from all evil influence that provoke unbelief, offense and prejudices that makes Christ a savor of death, rather than of life to you.
Quote for the Day: “Anything or anyone despised always puts the despiser in some technical, tactical, strategic and spiritual disadvantage.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please give me the strength of character that never takes your men, your grace, and your presence for granted in my life — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
