Beware of Unyielded Lifestyle

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, May 6, 2020

Today’s Text: 1 Samuel 15:11-23

Key Verse: 1 Samuel 15:22 (ESV): “And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,

as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,

and to listen than the fat of rams.”

Either in the spiritual or physical, the liability of an unyielding life is almost always unlimited. We have heard about the 1986 “Memorial Day Massacre” of the Midwest when, due to flooding, small creeks and drainage ditches became killer currents. Meanwhile, an officer had parked his car to block off dangerous street, yet several people drove around the police car and drowned.

God loves us, and is bringing before us, one of the greatest divine admonition this morning. Prophets and kings, great and small, nobles or ignoble men who inculcate the inspired words and practice obedience to God as constantly and indispensably necessary moral duty, above any ceremonial provision of religion, will always find themselves blessed and better for it.

Lessons from Saul’s rejection and debasement is pertinent to us today. Obeying God is absolutely necessary in order that we may be acceptable to Him, and external services are worthless when the heart rebels. Before COVID-19, our age was warned of the danger of living without God; belong it, we have also been warned to flee the wrath to come.
