Beware the Ides of March

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, March 15, 2022

Today’s Text: Ephesians 5:15-21

Key Verse: Ephesians 5:16 (KJV): “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

It is most likely you have heard the soothsayer’s warning to the emperor Caesar in William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. Perhaps, Shakespeare did not foresee how famous his genius fiction would become; but, March 15 has always been perceived as a warning sign against dark and gloomy imports. I pray today and always that no evil shall befall you. Ides refers to 15th of March, which the literature, music, playwright and movie world has adopted as a caution against bad omens.

In the middle of an unprovoked unfortunate aggressive attack on Ukraine and on our world’s peace, Russia, upon this day, beckons us to beware a brutal Ides of March. The powers of the world have remained clueless, powerfully powerless or helpless as we watch the devastation brought upon an innocent nation and people. However, God’s word presents us with the best solution ever: the days are evil, but we can redeem the time. After salvation, time is the most valuable treasure given by God to humanity. God’s people must rise up in timely manner and pray to the God of all peace to redeem these evil days.

Prayer gives us the opportunity to redeem anything. It gives us privilege with God to escape difficult moments. Through a sincere cry unto God, we can redeem or buy back our lost and/or shattered peace. If we pray, we can deliver Ukraine even as a lawful prey of the mighty. And brethren, sin is the most gruesome and worse omen our world must take caution against. It is the cause of all evil, pain and death. Sin in our lives is the most terrifying ides, which unfortunately, is so hard to beware. But, once again, through a sincere thirst towards God, we can redeem the time and maintain purity of heart and life. We can redeem each passing day, trusting God to lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Quote for the Day: “To escape the room of darkness, men must first beware their paths and then embrace the guiding light that God alone gives.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, in an sin-twisted world, please give us grace to take cover in Your divine shadow. Help us to put our hope and trust in You — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
