Today’s Text: Psalm 18:1-6
Key Verse: Psalm 18:3 (ESV): “I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.”
For some reasons, we all get disappointed from time to time. We don’t often get the treatment we deserve, the payback we set our hearts to get, and the gratitude or appreciation we expect. Sometimes, our spouse, a brother, a child, a friend, a neighbor, or a coworker does things that we thought they would never do. Sometimes we get reports or results that we never expect. This life just seems to have its way of giving us things that we do not expect. That is disappointing. We all hate it. We pray against it. We set plans deliberately not to experience it. Unfortunately, somehow, life seems wired in a way that we get our share of disappointment one way or the other.
David served King Saul in diverse ways including being his harpist during his insanity. But his paycheck was that Saul sought to destroy him. Friends, you are not alone. Apart from David, the Bible is full of several disappointed people like us: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Hannah, Samson, Gideon, Jeremiah — including Jesus Christ, our Lord, and the earliest apostles. It was in the midst of David’s disappointment that he bore the testimony of his blessings that we all meditate upon today. Friends, God listens, hears our cries, and comforts us in our happiness, sadness, heartbrokenness — every disappointment.
Yes! But God is never moved by emotions. Rather, He's moved by our trust and faith in Him! It takes only faith to see God moving and shielding us from the shame, hurt, harm and injury of disappointment. Chris Rock recently got an unexpected onstage slap. But his acceptance rating, marketability and success as never been so skyrocketing until thereafter. See, if you choose to look at every life situation as a blessing — each twist will definitely offer you an opportunity to make yourself better, happier and grateful. In all, we must remember the words of our Lord: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33)
Quote for the Day: “We may not be able to control what life gives to us; but we definitely have full control of what we give back in response.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I present my weighed down by disappointments heart to You. Lift me up where I feel let down. Strengthen me wherever I have failed and don't know what to do. Never let me give up to despair. But open my eyes to see how You are working everything for my good— in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
