Change your Story: Praying with Jabez Part 2

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, August 18, 2023

Today’s Text: 1 Chronicles 4:1-10

Key Verse: 1 Chronicles 4:9 (KJV): “And Jabez was more honorable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.”

During the days of Prussian king Frederick the Great, he toured a Berlin prison; where a certain prisoner fell on his knee, trembling and pleading for mercy. Other prisoners stood aloof, claiming innocence except for that man, who remained silent. Frederick called to him, "Why are you here?" "Armed robbery, Your Majesty," he confessed. "And are you guilty?" "Yes indeed, Your Majesty, I deserve my punishment, but plead your mercy” Frederick then summoned the jailer and ordered him, "Release this guilty wretch at once. I will not have him kept in this prison where he will corrupt all the fine innocent people who occupy it."

That is just what happens when we fake being alright, being righteous, and pretend as if all were okay. For Jabez to change his story of wretchedness to honor, he had to own up to the pain he was born with; but cried that God will change the situation. The arms of God’s mercy always reaches out only to anyone who realize his or her needs and cry out to Him for change. Jabez has been written off from birth by his mother. He was honestly before God and cried out to Him, and found mercy. You may feel so fractured in yourself, condemned by your past and situation. But if you realize your need for God and cry out to Him, He will turn your situation around. That was exactly the case with Jabez.

Quote for the Day: “Earth has no woes, that heaven cannot kill, when our hands reaches up for help.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer:  Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your willingness to help me. I run unto you, O destiny changer, change any evil destiny imposed on my life — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
