Christ Our Example

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, May 3, 2022

Today Text: Acts 10:34-43

Key Verse: Acts 10:38 (ISV): “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and because God was with him, he went around doing good and healing everyone who was oppressed by the devil.”

It is easy to think of piety, devotion and holiness whenever one thinks of being like Christ. Yes, these things are attributed to the character of our Lord. He is our Holy and Righteous example. But how pleasant shall it be if people see us and mark us for our act of kindness. Christians must realize that the greatest influence of Christ on the great majority of people who followed Him while He was here was not because of His piety and devotion. They followed Him because He was compassionate and kind. It will be so awesome if people mark us for taking pity on those in misery. Righteous living is Christians’ imitation of Christ, but kindness to others is their best demonstration of His power, love, and purpose.

Jesus was anointed for that same purpose. In Luke 4:18, Jesus declared his purpose in this way: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.” Friends, we have been sent to do greater works than these. Let us therefore, rise to continuation of Christ’s anointed ministry of kindness. He is our example. Let us not do these for the applause of men; but all for the glory of God. For a day is coming when our King shall say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world: For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. (Matthew 25:34, 35).

Quote for the Day: “It is great to supplicate for people’s felicity; but better if we are quicker to supply their necessities.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, You who is full of unfailing love, and mercy, please fill my life with so much love — enough to be a living testimony to Your kindness and redeeming grace — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
