Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, January 20, 2022
Today’s Text: Matthew 11:20-30
Key Verse: Matthew 11:28 (NIV): “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

We have heard such great scriptures as Come to me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. We have heard: Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. Jesus alone has the place of rest to which the weary May come and find rest. He alone has the place of repose if the world would listen. He alone promised and is able to refresh weary souls and replenish all who are weak. On the last and greatest day of the feast, He stood up and called out in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.
Who is our Lord Jesus so eager to help humanity and give so much rest? He knows how much the soul of man is in weariness and unrest. He understands the fruitlessness of our cravings for peace and repose. He sees how a little outward peace of an unregenerate spirit leads to even a graver storm of unrest within. Without Him, we are like sailors that make shipwrecked of our own live boats by the waves of our own passions. Finding true rest does not belong to our schemes and science. Our heart may seem at rest this moment and gets entangled with unexplainable battles at the next.
We can never work so hard enough to secure a restful mind. The more we work, the more we are worn. When we are tired and claim to rest; even then, our minds are wide awake. All these are labor and heavy load on a life seeking calm and peace. But Jesus is so gracious: He would not have any heartbroken, despondent person hold back in fear. No one receives the blessing except he comes to Christ. True rest is to be found only through a personal experience of, and affinity with Christ. So, why hold back when you have such a great burden, and such great Savior freely offers you so great peace?! Come to Jesus. Submit to Him as Lord, and you will find rest for your soul.
Quote for the Day: “Man’s first step to peace is coming to Jesus; their step to possession of peace is learning of/from Him.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please grant me peace of mind and calm my troubled heart. Lead me to find my purpose in You and walk the path you've laid out for me — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
I personally invite you to No Negotiation Night tomorrow. With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D
