Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, September 24, 2021
Today’s Text: 2 Corinthians 1:3-11
Key Verses: 2 Corinthians 1:3 (NLT): “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.”

We have great examples and testimonies from the word of God about how patriarchs took their hurts, disappointment, griefs, and anxieties to the Lord. That was part of what qualified one of them, David, to be called a man after God’s own heart. In this text, Apostle Paul is spurring us to learn this secret. No matter how wise and gifted the likes of Dr. Phil are, seeking comfort from temporary things and people of this world will always only bring temporary comfort. Only God is our sure answers when we are in distress. He alone protects and helps His men from the sanctuary; and grants support from Zion. He comforts His afflicted people with all the affection and solicitude of a merciful father. He comforts us with all the patience and forbearance of a nursing mother.
We can be so confident of this divine comfort that we can be thankful even amid tribulations. Just like the Lord's Prayer, teaches us to trust in the Providence of God as our Father which art in heaven, Paul also moves us to be grateful for the entire care we have of Him. For the father of our Lord Jesus Christ is our father. After His Resurrection, Jesus assured us of that fact. He said: “I ascend to God My Father and your Father." Understanding God in this light is necessary to our appreciation of the comfort we have of/in Him. First, as the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, He loves us so much that He gave up His only begotten Son for us. The One who gives His Son also freely gives us all things. We must not lose sight of all the mercies we already find in God. This is what, indeed, will also move us to give thanks for all the mercies we seek, which all proceed from Him.
Quote for the Day: “All graces flow from mercy. All mercies flow from God. All men in miseries and are seeking mercies must go to God.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, we give you praise for your abundant mercy, please continue to comfort us with your peace and presence, in Jesus' name. Amen.
