Created for His Good Pleasure

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Sunday, September 28, 2025

Today's Text: Revelation 4:1-11

Key Verse: Revelation 4:11 (KJV): "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

Set within a dramatic vision of heavenly worship, the apostle John describes a throne room scene with God seated on a throne that is surrounded by four living creatures and 24 elders. In this context, the tone of earthly worship is dictated so that our worship expresses the declaration of God's worthiness, glory, honor, and power as Creator. The reason is also given: He alone has authority over all creation. Our knowledge of who God is always calls for a commensurate response of worship.

Yes, worship procedes from appreciation and praise of God's eternal nature. But it is even more: it proceeds from the understanding that God created us for His good pleasure. He created all things, including humanity, to fulfill His divine will and bring Him glory. As we worship today, do we see God as the ultimate source of purpose for creation? Do you realize that your chief role as a created being is to worship, honor, and relate to God?

By this revelation of God, we are blessed to know that God did not create anything because He was under compulsion. No. He did because of His sovereign will and purpose, ultimately for His own good pleasure. He was not bound by any external necessity; He creates because He desires to, in His wisdom and nature as God. This truth should help us to be more confidence that God always has an ultimate, loving plan for all things in our lives whether we know it or not.

Therefore, our primary purpose is to glorify and honor Him. Colossians 1:16 says, "For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him." The role of Christ in creation, His divinity, His authority over all things, visible and invisible, and His purpose for creating them all things so that the entire creation is for His glory and praise is clearly stated.

We worship Jesus Christ because He is preeminent and sovereign over all creation. We are specifically created in His image so that we can have the capability to catch a glimpse into His being and grasp the fact that we are meant to know, love, and worship Him. That is our highest calling: to reflect His character and goodness to the world, which brings Him delight. Thys, our true happiness and fulfillment are found not in pursuing selfish pleasure, but in seeking to fulfill the purpose for which God created us. When we live in alignment with His will, we find the deepest and most enduring joy.

Action Steps: Let this reflection on God's Sovereignty inspire worship and reverence in your daily life. Make glorifying God your primary purpose because that is why you were created. Seek alignment with God's will. Pursue living in alignment with God's will. Never stop until you find joy and fulfillment in your created purpose. Cultivate a lifestyle of appreciation and praise to God. Recognize His loving plan for you in all things.

Quote for the Day: "Worship proceeds from appreciation and praise of God's eternal nature, and from understanding that God created us for His good pleasure. This is where our true happiness and fulfillment are found. Not in pursuing selfish pleasure, but in seeking to fulfill the purpose for which God created us." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, acknowledging Your sovereignty and creative power. Thank You for creating us for Your pleasure and purpose. Help us to worship and glorify You in all we do, seeking to fulfill the purpose You have ordained for our lives. May Your will be done in us and through us, bringing You delight and glory — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
