Dare to Be a Jeremiah

Today's Text: Jeremiah 1:1-19; 20:7-13; 29:10-13

Key Verse: Jeremiah 1:7-8 (KJV) — "But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD."

At thirteen, Jeremiah heard a terrifying call — in the thirteenth year of Josiah, God said, "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee" (Jeremiah 1:5). Like most men used by God, in humility, he pleaded youth and inability, like Moses, yet God touched his mouth and ordained him a prophet to nations. Dare to be a Jeremiah: dare to accept divine ordination over your inadequacy, and to say yes when your age, background, and timidity say no.

He refused to be silenced. For over forty years he stood alone — weeping over a rebellious Judah, hated by kings, beaten by Pashur, thrown into a cistern, called a traitor for preaching surrender. Yet he declared, "Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay" (Jeremiah 20:9). Dare to be a Jeremiah: let the Word burn on your heart and mouth until it is stronger than fear, stronger than rejection, and stronger than the applause of men.

His tears were not weakness — they were warfare. He did not prophesy from a palace balcony; he wept at the city gates, interceded for his persecutors, and bought a field in Anathoth while Jerusalem burned as a sign that God would bring again. He chose the painful truth over popular prophecy. He did not manage the message; he delivered it even when it demolished him. Dare to be a Jeremiah: let your obedience be tear-stained, your courage be solitary, and your faith buy fields of hope when others see only ruins.

Therefore Scripture's verdict remains — a weeping prophet who never saw revival in his lifetime, yet outlived empires because God watched over His Word to perform it. Not by numbers, not by acceptance, but by unflinching faithfulness, one weeping man preserved the Word for generations. God is still searching for that voice. Dare to weep, dare to pray, dare to stand alone, dare to speak — what begins as your private yes in the face of fear can preserve truth for your family, church, and generation.

Action Steps: Identify one hard truth God has laid on your heart that you have muted for fear of faces. Speak it today in love and with tears. Let the Word burn afresh in you — re-covenant to not forbear speaking what God has commanded. Stand alone if you must, and sow one act of hope that declares God will still restore.

Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, like Jeremiah, I answer Your call now — touch my mouth and take away my excuse of being a child. Put Your fire in my bones and deliver me from the fear of faces. Let my life, though weeping, remain faithful to speak Your Word and to sow hope for my generation — in Jesus' most glorious name. Amen.
