Dare to Be a Serah

Today’s Text: Genesis 46:1–27; Numbers 26:44–47; 1 Chronicles 7:30

Key Verse: Numbers 26:46 (KJV) — “And the name of the daughter of Asher was Sarah.”

The Holy Spirit is bringing us to Serah’s example in our dare-to-be series. Her story is a divine call to faithful remembrance, quiet influence, generational endurance, and uncommon usefulness in the hands of God. Unlike many biblical characters, Serah’s life is not described through a long narrative. Her name appears briefly among the descendants of Jacob, yet she is named in the record of those who went down into Egypt, in the wilderness census, and again in the genealogy of Asher. Scripture mentions her among many men, making her the only granddaughter of Jacob named in that family listing.

Serah teaches us that significance is not always measured by the number of verses devoted to a person. Some lives are not loudly celebrated, yet they are carefully remembered by God. She lived at the intersection of generations—connected to Jacob’s household, the Egyptian bondage, the wilderness journey, and the unfolding story of Israel. Her name reminds us that God sees those who faithfully carry His purposes across seasons, even when their contributions are not publicly recorded.

Dare to be a Serah: dare to remain faithful when your assignment appears hidden, dare to preserve the testimony of what God has done, and dare to become a bridge between one generation and another. You may not stand on a platform, lead an army, or receive public applause, but your faithfulness can help others recognize the hand of God. A quiet witness, a preserved promise, and a well-told testimony can become instruments of divine direction.

Jewish tradition later portrays Serah as a woman of exceptional wisdom who helped Israel remember the promises connected with Joseph and recognize Moses as the redeemer sent by God. These details belong to later interpretive tradition rather than the explicit biblical narrative, but they beautifully illustrate the kind of influence associated with her remembered name: a woman who carried sacred memory and helped her people discern God’s moment of deliverance.

Serah’s example also speaks to those who have endured long seasons. She is remembered across generations because her life represents continuity. She reminds us that God can preserve a person through changing times and use one faithful life to connect the past with the future. While others may forget the faithfulness of their fathers, mothers, and ancestors, a Serah keeps the story alive. She remembers the covenant, rehearses the promises, and refuses to let suffering erase the evidence of God’s goodness.

God is still looking for people who will stand in the gap between generations, preserve the testimonies of His faithfulness, and help others recognize His appointed purposes. He is calling you to turn your memories into ministry, your years into wisdom, and your hidden faithfulness into a legacy of hope. Do not despise a quiet assignment. What appears to be only a name in a family record may represent a life that carried the memory, courage, and hope of an entire people.

Action Steps: Remember and rehearse the faithfulness of God in your life and family. Refuse to allow hardship, obscurity, or the passing of time to make you forget His promises. Encourage the younger generation with the testimonies of what God has done. Use your experience and wisdom to help others recognize divine direction. Remain faithful in hidden places, knowing that God records every act of obedience. Let your life become a bridge through which faith, courage, and godly values pass to those coming after you.

Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Serah, whose name reminds us that no faithful life is insignificant in Your sight. Teach me to preserve the testimony of Your goodness, to honor the lessons of those who came before me, and to encourage those who will come after me. Give me grace to remain faithful when my work is hidden and my influence is not publicly recognized. Make me a bridge between generations, a keeper of godly memory, and a witness who helps others discern Your purpose. Let my life leave an uncommon mark for Your glory. — in Jesus’ most glorious name.
