Deceitfulness of Charm

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, September 19, 2023

Today’s Text: Proverbs 31:10-31

Key Verse: Proverbs 31:30 (NKJV): “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.”

The core theme of this very populous scripture is that characters are costly treasures that are not everywhere to be found. They are no commonplace blessing. Unfortunately, rather than seek such, the human race whore after charm. Most men despise rare, beautiful and true ornament which issues from within. and are better joys than all that earth affords.

King Lemuel warns his readers through times and generations to treasure only things which our hearts will forever delight in should we possess them. The greatest gift of God is rooted in piety. And, piety is the womb of character. We fractured and depraved by virtue of the Adamic nature, but we are regenerated and refined through our knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Therefore, we must wink at all deceitful lure of charm. Any attraction to worldliness at the detriment of character is a detraction. We must pursue the ways of  character— fidelity; kindness, constancy, affection, diligence, thrift, grace, gravity, industry, assiduity, charity, providence, reputation, discretion, humility, compassion, teachability, and temperance.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, please help me to Let me be light to wanderers by night, compass and guide to seekers. O let Your love shine in me, and teach me to be an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
