Deeper in Compassion

Deeper in Compassion

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Friday, February 6, 2026

Today’s Text: Matthew 9:35–38

Key Verse: Matthew 9:36 (ESV) — “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

Today, the Spirit draws our attention to a vital mark of Christlikeness: compassion. If we are to live deeply in Christ, our hearts must beat with what moves His heart. Jesus did not just see crowds; He felt their condition. He did not just preach; He was moved with godly compassion that always birth action. The Scripture is consistent in showing us that Jesus’ compassion flowed from His vision: “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion.” He always sees beyond faces into burdens, beyond behavior into brokenness.

Compassion is more than pity; it is love in motion, mercy that moves, and empathy that engages. A deeper life in Christ is a life that refuses to be indifferent to the pain around it. Many of us are busy in daily life's personal pusrsuits, including nursing and ministry, yet, our hearts have grown numb. Deeper compassion begins when we ask God to anoint our eyes and soften our hearts again. It will interrupt your schedule, stretch your comfort, and challenge your prejudices. But it will also make you a living extension of Christ’s hands and feet in a hurting world.

Compassion does not always require big platforms; it is expressed in simple, consistent acts—listening to someone’s story, praying with the discouraged, giving to the needy, visiting the lonely, or offering a word of hope. Where compassion flows, healing often follows. When people encounter the compassion of Christ through you, they encounter the heart of the Gospel.

Child of God, yielding deeper as a believer this month includes refusing to walk past broken people—in your neighborhood, workplace, family, community, and organization—as if you do not see them. Yes—including those hard-to-love-or-help folks—because they all matter to God. Why not ask the Lord to break your heart for whatever or whoever breaks His. Why not trust to make your tears someone’s turning point; and your kindness someone’s confirmation that Jesus loves them.

Action Steps: Today, ask the Holy Spirit to show you one person in your sphere who is “harassed and helpless” and needs a touch of compassion. Reach out intentionally—through a call, a visit, a prayer, or a tangible gift. Also, spend a few minutes praying for laborers to be sent into the harvest, and offer yourself afresh as one of them.

Quote for the Day: “A deep walk with Christ will always overflow in compassion for people. This is because when His love fills your heart, your hands can no longer stay idle.” — (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Lord Jesus, compassionate Savior, give me Your eyes to see people as You see them. Deliver me from hardness of heart and selfish living. Fill me with Your tender mercy and move me to action where there is pain, confusion, or need. Make me a channel of comfort, healing, and hope to the harassed and helpless. In Your merciful name I pray. Amen.
